Welcome to the San Fernando Valley

Chapter of

The California Society of Enrolled Agents

The mission of the California Society of Enrolled Agents is to foster the professionalism, business development and personal growth of its Members, to protect the interests of the individual Members of the Society, and to enhance the awareness and role of the Enrolled Agent among members of the public, other professions and with governmental agencies.

DON'T FORGET YOUR PTIN

No PTIN - No Credit...It causes a lot of difficulty when members don't include their PTIN on the CE Certificates. Starting with the January meeting the chapter will no longer chase after missing PTINs.  If you can't remeber it, put it as a contact on your phone.

MAY IS SHRED MONTH

The chapter is holding it's 4th annual Shred-A-Thron at the Airtel Plaza Hotel (in the parking lot behind the hotel) preceeding the May 12th dinner meeting from 4PM to 7PM. Sherdding Fee is only $2.50 per banker's box of documents.

This service is available to Chapter Members, clients and friends.

He began his career as a tax professional with Price Waterhouse & Co. and Arthur Andersen & Co., and later became CFO for Teledyne Marine Co. and Teledyne Continental Motors. He then began making acquisitions for his personal portfolio and in March 2006, he sold his last company and decided to move to California and enjoy the "good life" of beach volleyball & surfing.

After six months of retirement, he realized he wasn’t cut out to spend all his time on the beach. His core competencies are in federal tax controversies, administrative dispute resolution and tax policy counseling, representing a broad range of clients engaged in or seeking to avoid disputes with the IRS.

June 17 One Day Seminar

June 17 One Day Seminar
DEATH AND TAXES

EARLY ORDER PRICE EXPIRES APRIL 15

Need to hone your 1041 return preparation skills.
This is the seminar that everyone has been asking for.

So, please join us on
June 17th 2014
And learn from an expert on the subject, Claudia Hill, EA, M.B.A.
This is the same seminar she gave for CCH

Now more than ever practitioners are called upon to provide after-death tax services for clients. The surge in wealth in our upper-bracket clients during the last few decades has resulted in an increasing demand for estate and trust services.

The focus in this class is what to do after a client deceases. Learn living trust and after-death trust tax return basics and the accurate preparation of fiduciary income tax returns (1041).

Comprehensive, detailed examples with actual completed forms will be included in the course.

California Trust laws (probate code including the Uniform Principal and Income Act), which govern trust tax preparation, are incorporated throughout the seminar. Sometimes the income in a trust is taxed only at the trust level, sometimes only to the beneficiaries and sometimes to a combination of both.

Learn how to file correctly to avoid severe litigation risks from IRS and residual beneficiaries.

This course will guide attendees through the maze of after-death requirements including key 1041 elections and pitfalls to avoid.
You will learn about the interaction between various forms and the best place to take various deductions.

Discussions include what to look for in the trust instrument and how the trust wording will impact tax preparation. Also, the seminar will teach you how to prepare and file ongoing trust returns, such as Grantor trusts, the Bypass (B) trust and the Qtip (C) trust.

The topics covered are a major hotbed of liability for tax practitioners, learn about your exposure and what to avoid.
